Occasionally I like to experiment with panning or tilting movements and slower shutter speeds to add some creative variety. The photo below is at a shutter speed of 1/15 sec. and a vertical hand-held tilting motion.

While I like the look of motion blur, I couldn’t help but wonder what it would look like combined with a conventional “frozen” frame. So I snapped a few frames and came home to combine the images in Affinity Photo (basically like Photoshop, but affordable).
Take a look at the comparison between the frozen frame and the blended version including the motion:

The blended photo represents about 70% opacity of the motion layer on top of the frozen layer, with the blend mode set to “screen.”
I spent maybe 15-20 minutes experimenting between different percentages of the layers and different blend modes. If I wanted to go deep in the rabbit whole, I could have applied some masking, but that felt unwarranted.
Overall, I am pleased with the result. What stood out to me was, in the midst of the motion, the detail in the bark of the trees stood out even more, and the shimmering effect that the leaves on the grass creates an added bonus.
